My name is Evrard Dedo, and I am a Master’s student in Information Systems and Digital Innovation at IAE, Université Savoie Mont Blanc, France. Originally from Benin, I am currently living in Annecy, where I am also actively involved as a mentor with the AFEV, a local association that mobilizes young people to fight social and educational inequalities through educational mentoring. In my mentoring role, I support a young girl with her schoolwork, encourage her to step outside her comfort zone, and help her grow both academically and personally. Mentoring is not just an activity for me—it is a responsibility and a passion.
In November 2025, I had the opportunity to attend the Transnational Student Meeting in Plovdiv, Bulgaria organised by Bridges by Mentors, and it was an amazing experience. The event helped me to deeply understand the entire mentoring process, especially the crucial steps before matching mentors and mentees. I learned how important adaptability is when facing unfamiliar situations, how to create meaningful memories with mentees, and how to connect practical skills with leadership. The sessions also strengthened my confidence and taught me how to support young people in a smooth and respectful way.
One of the highlights was meeting mentors from so many different countries, including Cyprus, Belgium, the Netherlands, Japan, and Italy. Despite our different cultures and identities, we quickly became more than peers—we became a beautiful family. I am truly grateful to Bridges by Mentors and the trainers from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bulgaria Association for their openness and support.
I am truly looking forward to applying the skills and insights I gained to my own mentoring activities. I would recommend Bridges by Mentors as a valuable programme for anyone who wants to make a positive impact through mentoring.
