Eva has got an Unforgettable Experience in Bridges by Mentors, get to know it!

About Me

What are my interests?

“Several topics were important to me such as human health and well-being, helping people in need such as refugees. However, it is always difficult to place myself in such a situation. On the other hand, journalism, drawings, and reading are activities that I value and like spending time on. “

What are my skills?

“I have various skills. I am very good at drawing. When I am with other people, they generally say that it is easy to feel comfortable. I would then conclude that I am a good listener and to create a safe space. Additionally, I bring a lot of energy into groups, giving opinions and always trying to bring people together. “

How I knew Bridges by Mentors

“I am in the “Exchange Group Fall 2025” which is the group for every exchange student in NHL Stenden. Most of us are in Leeuwarden. In this group I received this message on the 18th of August 2025. I immediately send a message to join the team. I filled the form choosing the target group “young children”. I have a special attachment for children that I could explain by the fact that my parents had me 5 years before all of their friends and I spend my childhood taking care of their children. I enjoy creating games to make them smile and entertain. I started to babysit when I was 15 years old, and I have 3 sisters of 15, 11 and 3 years old. This is a public I am used to, and love being around. “

Why I decided to join

“I am very curious, and discovering Dutch culture was an essential part of my Erasmus in the Netherlands, that is why I jumped on the occasion to discover it through this opportunity. Also, at the end of the program, mentors receive a certificate proving participation. I think this new experience can only be a plus to add when I will looking for jobs as activity leaders in summer camps as I already did. “

Mentoring training 1

“The first session was very interesting. Alex came with us to help to create a link with the children and to introduce ourselves. We planned to make presentation, and a couple of games, but the presentations took a long time because we saw that children loved it. They asked a lot of questions about our different cultures (French, Spanish, Zimbabwe, German, Indie…) and seemed very interested. “

Mentoring training 2

“Alex decided that regarding the first session we were able to manage the time with children on our own and did not accompany us (trainers were still there). I felt a little lonely when I tried to prepare the session because it was a new team (we were only 3 members present on the first session) and I did not receive a lot of answers to my messages in the group to prepare it properly.

We decided to make an activity based on leaves that children would cut and glue to create animals or characters.  “

Language village

“This session was a bit different from previous ones. Indeed, the public was secondary school students. The goal of this activity was to make them move from stand to stand in order to speak as much English as possible. On each stand they had to describe images and start conversations with the mentors. I was on a specific table: the French Quiz. We had a card game with Dutch to French questions. It was quite complicated because I don’t speak Dutch, so some cards were not very understandable. Fortunately, I was not alone and was accompany by Benedetta and with a Surinamese mentor, which was able to speak Dutch and French, so she helped a lot to translate.”

Field Trip

“Out of the 18 candidates, I was one of the six fortunate candidates chosen.”  Said Eva while referring to the international Mentor Week hosted at Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

“On the six days we traveled for two days. The four other days were dedicated to meet the three other delegations and learn more about mentoring with the Big brother big sisters association in Plovdiv and visit the beautiful city during the free time.

The different delegation came from France, Belgium and Cyprus. We represented in the same time our current university and country and origin country which were more diverse (Zimbabwe, France, Benin, Ukraine, Italie, Myanmar, Spain, Greece…) All of us are part of the organization Bridges by Mentor in these different universities. “

“It was an amazing experience, where I learned more about mentoring, it gave me more confidence to see Aiza and understand why I was important.  ”
