My name is Kimon, I’m 25 years old, and I come from Corfu, an island in the Ionian Sea of Greece. I grew up in a small mountain village where life was calm and familiar. For most of my life, I studied music, and for a long time, I thought that would be my path.
Four years ago, I made the decision to move to Cyprus to start a new chapter. My plan was to pursue a degree in music. But just a few months before my move, something unexpected happened – I discovered psychology. I started reading books on the subject and quickly became fascinated. That curiosity turned into a passion I didn’t know I had. Now, five years later, I’m a senior Psychology student at the University of Nicosia.
The transition wasn’t easy. Moving from a quiet village to a bustling city came with its own set of challenges, the noisy streets, constant traffic, and a fast-paced lifestyle that felt overwhelming. As an international student, the hardest part was the feeling of isolation. I struggled to find people who truly understood what I was going through.
That’s when Bridges by Mentors became a turning point in my journey. It connected me with students from all over the world who were facing similar challenges. Through shared experiences, we learned how to support one another and eventually became mentors ourselves. It taught me that simply sharing your story can make the weight of adjustment feel a little lighter.
Now, as I approach the end of my university studies, I can confidently say that Bridges by Mentors helped me grow not only academically, but also personally. It gave me the tools to connect, reflect, and support others navigating the same path I once did.
