Hey everyone!
My name is Enovi, and I’m from the U.S.A. (Idaho, to be exact.) I am currently studying psychology as a full-time student at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus.
I have lived in many places over the years, but moving to a new country always has challenges. Things like meeting new people, learning the language, getting to know the local culture are all really fun and incredibly worthwhile, but can also be really difficult at times. For me, it was particularly challenging to find time while also balancing my studies and work. Bridges by Mentors offered a framework for making these connections.
I have been lucky enough to have been involved in mentoring programs before so when I found out about Bridges by Mentors I was incredibly excited to be able to participate. I was particularly interested because it offers opportunities to become more involved with the local community.
Bridges by Mentors is more than just opportunities for mentoring, it really is about building community and connections.
During mentor training, I was able to meet other students from abroad and also from the local area. I was able to meet fantastic people and make new friends. Bridges by Mentors also created space to have conversations that were deeply meaningful to me; discussing personal philosophies, motivations and dreams.
Every experience I have had through Bridges by Mentors has been really positive. It’s given me the chance to practice skills that are important to me, like communication and empathy. There are opportunities to grow as a leader, but also to practice listening, following and supporting others.
Participating in Bridges by Mentors has given me a chance to learn new things about Cyprus, but also about myself. I think it is a fantastic program and an incredible opportunity for students.
I absolutely recommend it to any international student who wants to meet excellent people, have great experiences and get more involved in the local community.
